The NRU Takes Home Gold

Both the Men’s and Women’s Niagara Rugby Union (NRU) Thunder team took home gold at the Ontario Summer Games.

On August 8th and 9th, the NRU sent two men’s and women’s sides to the 2014 Ontario Summer Games, which took place in Windsor, Ont.

On the first day, in pool play, all four NRU teams went undefeated. The play-off round showed great victories and upsets, the NRU women’s “B” side defeated the Toronto Rugby (TR) “A” side, to win the bronze medal. In the women’s final, the NRU “A” side defeated the South West Rugby (SWR) “A” side, to win gold, in a very aggressive match.

The NRU men’s teams took home first and fourth place. The NRU “B” side lost a very close match, to the TR “B” side, and the NRU “A” side won a very close match up against the TR “A” side.

Congratulations to all players, coaches and parents who were apart of the overall success of the NRU Thunder program. On behalf of the NRU. thank you to all volunteers and staff members who made the Ontario Games, in Windsor, such a success.
